Copenhagen Hotel Apartment Doubles as Rotating Art Space Since 2010

Since 2010, a private apartment within Copenhagen's Kong Arthur hotel has functioned as ApArt, a project space curated by Hans Christian Smed. The space hosts rotating exhibitions by primarily Danish artists while remaining available for overnight accommodation. Visitors encounter artworks integrated into the living environment, blurring lines between hospitality and gallery experience. Artists FOS and Pind presented the site-specific exhibition You Are Welcome in 2014, featuring installations like Head to Mouth and Someones Functions Lonely As It May Seem. Other artists have exhibited there, including Sophie Dupont with her durational performance Marking Breath in summer 2014, Erika Severin with War Paper Tapestries in spring 2014, Mads Lindberg with process-based paintings in 2013, and Suzette Gemzøe with blue abstract watercolours in spring 2014. The apartment is located near Peblinge Sø lake in Copenhagen, accessible via the Nørreport metro station. Artworks remain in place for hotel guests, creating unexpected encounters with contemporary art in domestic settings. This unconventional model challenges traditional exhibition formats by maintaining artistic interventions within a functional living space.
