Coollustre: Éric Troncy's Curatorial Masterpiece at Collection Lambert

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Éric Troncy, co-director of Le Consortium, critic, and author, curated 'Coollustre' at Collection Lambert in Avignon from May 25 to September 28, 2003. The exhibition is the final part of a trilogy including 'Dramatically Different' (Grenoble, 1997) and 'Weather Everything' (Leipzig, 1998). It features 20 chapters, opening with Ugo Rondinone's sleeping clown and closing with a Tom Ford for Gucci dog sofa. Works include Sylvie Fleury's gold-plated shopping carts, Claude Lévêque's 'Grand Hôtel' (1982), and Xavier Veilhan's 'La Route, scoreboard n°4' (2001). Highlights include a Franz West sofa facing Bernard Buffet's 'La Mort' series (1999) with Philippe Parreno's 'Paf le chien', and a Katharina Fritsch monk opposite Thomas Ruff's constellations. The Grande Galerie displays four Helmut Newton 'Big Nude' (1990) and Kendell Geers' 'T.W. -[INRI]' (1995/2002) above Katharina Fritsch's 'Tischgesellschaft' (1988). Pierre Huyghe's 'L'Auditorium' (1996-98) and Jean-Luc Verna's photographs provide critical distance. Troncy's display redefines curatorship as authorship, blending nostalgia and festivity, gravity and nonchalance.
