Controversial nude painting of Emiliano Zapata sparks protests in Mexico City

Zapata's grandson, Jorge Zapata González, has threatened legal action, stating the painting denigrates Zapata by portraying him as gay. Cháirez, whose art often questions masculinity and gender norms with queer or camp figures, defended the piece, asking where the offense lies and noting it feminizes Zapata. Scuffles broke out between critics and supporters framing it as an LGBT rights issue. Cháirez announced an event on Friday to support LGBTTTI expression and cultural rights.
