Contemporary Istanbul 2023 Announces 75 Galleries and New Photography Platform
Contemporary Istanbul will hold its 18th edition from September 28 to October 1, 2023, at Tersane Istanbul, a former Ottoman-era shipyard on the Golden Horn. The fair features 75 galleries and initiatives from 22 countries, with 21 first-time participants including 4710 Gallery (Tbilisi), Arma Gallery (Madrid), and Kalashnikovv Gallery (Johannesburg). Main partner is Akbank. New this year is CI Photo Focus, a photography platform overseen by Simone Klein (formerly Sotheby's and Photo London), showcasing 20 international artists and an exhibition from Borusan Contemporary's photography collection. The Yard outdoor exhibition, curated by Marc-Oliver Wahler (Director of MAH Geneva), presents sculpture, video, and installation works themed around industrial design. CIF Dialogues talks program runs September 27-29, covering CI Photo Focus, Art in Public Spaces, and Art in Residence. Tersane Istanbul, renovated by Tabanlioglu Architects, dates to the 15th century. Ferry transport from Kadıköy, Üsküdar, and Beşiktaş to Hasköy Pier will be provided by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Lines from September 26 to October 1.
