Contemporary Cluster Rome adds specialty coffee bar and independent magazine shop
Contemporary Cluster, the eclectic Rome gallery, is expanding its hybrid model with two new partnerships. From February 24, Faro – Caffè Specialty, Rome's top specialty coffee shop, opens its first pop-up coffee bar on the first floor of the 17th-century Palazzo Cavallerini Lazzaroni, near Campo de' Fiori and Largo Argentina. Adjacent, Edicola 518, a Perugia-based independent magazine and book retailer, will curate a selection of publications. The new spaces aim to create a relaxed, convivial social area open to all, redefining the gallery concept. Roman tattoo artists and artists Mamone and Scarful, already exhibiting at Contemporary Cluster, have designed the cups and plates for the café. Founder Giacomo Guidi envisions the gallery as a platform for diverse cultural experiences, including art, photography, publishing, and now coffee. He believes the traditional gallery and museum model needs to be completely rethought, moving away from an elitist, closed circle toward a collective, accessible space. Guidi cites historical precedents like La Salita gallery above Caffè Rosati in the 1960s and 1970s, where art and social life converged. He argues that art has lost its political dimension due to market performance, criticizing an oversaturated market with too many fairs, galleries, artists, and collectors. The ground floor and second floor of Contemporary Cluster remain dedicated to art and design exhibitions.
