Contemporary Art Scene in Cyprus: A Travel Guide
Following a hiatus due to the pandemic, Sala 1 gallery is set to restart its travel initiative, beginning with a visit to Cyprus that features both renowned landmarks and modern cultural happenings. The Philippines will be the next stop in February 2024. Since a coup and subsequent invasion in 1974, Cyprus has been split between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, influencing its contemporary art scene. Increased governmental support is aiding Cypriot artists in returning to their homeland. Key attractions include the Nicos Pattichis Collection, the Pierides Museum, the Municipal Art Gallery, and the Larnaca Biennale in October 2023, alongside UNESCO sites like the Troodos mountain churches and ancient Kourion, as well as Paphos, the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite.
