Contemporary art adorns Casa Italia at Cortina Ski World Championships

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Casa Italia, the hospitality hub for Italian athletes at the 46th Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo (running until February 21, 2021), has been transformed into a media factory blending sport with Italian art and design. Curated by Rome-based gallery Ex Elettrofonica (Benedetta Acciari and Beatrice Bertini), the project builds on previous Casa Italia editions for the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The venue, housed in the renovated pizzeria 5 Torri, features works by Marco Bernardi (series 'Italiette Pret'à Porter' and 'Cuori'), Massimo Uberti (neon piece 'SPAZIO AMATO'), and Francesca Pasquali (installation 'Iceberg' made from plastic straws). Furniture is by EDRA, lamps by Slamp. Bertini emphasized the curatorial choice to avoid didactic sport-themed art, instead focusing on shared values between art and sport. The initiative is a collaboration among FISI, CONI, and Sport e Salute Spa.
