CONTACT Art Project Space Launches in Rome with Sebastian Ziegler's 'Command to Freedom' Exhibition

A new experimental art center called CONTACT Art Project Space has opened in Rome, directed by the eclectic Marco Contini, founder of publishing house Kappabit and label Folderol. The space's inaugural exhibition features "Command to Freedom," the result of an artist residency by Sebastian Ziegler. The exhibition runs from March 12 to April 20, 2026, at Via Rattazzi 10 in Rome. Ziegler created works specifically for the residency and continued producing new pieces throughout the exhibition period, presenting them at the finissage on Monday, April 20, 2026, starting at 5:30 PM. The artist describes the exhibition's central theme as change and the necessity for transformation, drawing inspiration from crustaceans shedding their exoskeletons to grow. Ziegler creates geometric wooden forms that collapse on themselves, containing latex balloons to explore balance. The project represents the evolution of CONTACT (CONTemporaryACTion), promoted by KAPPABIT and conceived by Marco Contini, developed in collaboration with Riikka Vainio and the cultural association Lumi. The initiative has patronage from the Embassy of Finland in Rome. CONTACT Art Project Space offers artist residency opportunities and embraces a curatorial approach where artworks are not seen as final outcomes but as part of an ongoing, open process. The space is dedicated to continuous research and production, aligning with its mission of celebrating change and in-progress exploration.
