Consumer Reports Ranks 7 Cool-Sleeping Mattresses for Hot Sleepers

Consumer Reports tested seven mattresses for heat retention, firmness, and support to identify cool-sleeping options for those who run hot. The Casper Snow, priced at $2,595, is a 12.2-inch innerspring mattress that showed very little heat buildup and earned excellent ratings for durability, back support, and motion isolation after simulating eight years of use. The Denver Mattress Doctor's Choice Plush, at $800, retained a small amount of heat but still offered a cooling effect; its durability and back support were rated excellent, though motion isolation scored lower. The Parachute Eco, costing $2,400, also showed minimal heat buildup, with excellent durability and back support, but its heavier weight made it harder to move. The Avocado Latex Mattress, at $3,000, retained a bit more warmth but still slept somewhat cool, with excellent durability and very good support and motion isolation. The Purple Renew (Costco), priced at $1,399, trapped very little warmth despite being foam, and earned excellent durability and very good support ratings. The Sleep Number p6 smart bed, at $2,899, used gel-infused foam to offset heat retention, sleeping somewhat cool, with excellent back support and motion isolation. The Sleep Number c2 Smart Bed Classic Series, at $1,099, had minimal heat buildup, excellent durability and back support, and improved support on firmer settings. All mattresses were tested by Consumer Reports, which simulated eight years of use to assess durability.
