Constellations of Multiple Wishes at The Mosaic Rooms
The Mosaic Rooms presents 'Constellations of Multiple Wishes,' a group exhibition co-curated with Bojana Piškur that explores entangled histories from the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The exhibition features archival materials and works by Larry Achiampong, Nika Autor, Alia Farid, KURS, and Basim Magdy. Achiampong's new film 'A Letter (Side B)' examines colonialism and immigration, using footage from Ghana and the Museum of African Art in Belgrade. Autor's commission focuses on the 1947 Šamac-Sarajevo railway built by youth brigadiers, contrasted with refugee displacement. Farid's 'Mezquitas de Puerto Rico (Hatillo)' documents mosques in Latin America and the Caribbean via handwoven prayer rugs. KURS presents textile banners derived from NAM speeches. Magdy's film 'A 240 Second Analysis of Failure and Hopefulness' chemically alters film stock, and his public artwork 'Love Poem for City Dreamers' appears on a billboard in East London (20/02–05/03/2023). Works from The Art Collection of Non-aligned Countries Laboratory, including pieces by Inji Efflatoun, Kareem Dabbah, Choukri Mesli, and Khadeir Al Shakarji, are shown in London for the first time. The exhibition opens The Mosaic Rooms' 15th-year programme on solidarity and self-organisation.
