Constanze Ruhm and Laura Mulvey on Projection and Film Theory
On March 25, 2015, Central Saint Martins will host a discussion featuring artist Constanze Ruhm and film theorist Laura Mulvey, focusing on projection as a cinematic tool and a psychoanalytic idea. This dialogue will expand on their previous conversations, centering on Ruhm's INVISIBLE PRODUCERS and Mulvey's insights into the cinematic apparatus's repressed aspects. They will examine how advancements in digital technology might alter perceptions of projection and other fundamental film theory elements. Ruhm, a faculty member at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, showcased PANORAMIS PARAMOUNT PARANORMAL at Berlinale's Forum Expanded in 2015. Mulvey, a professor at Birkbeck College, is renowned for her influential works, including Visual and Other Pleasures. The event, organized by Afterall, Central Saint Martins, and the Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image, is free but requires prior booking, with support from the Austrian Cultural Forum London, coinciding with BIMI's Essay Film Festival.
