Conserving a Marconi camera and a space card game for Eurovision exhibition
Conservators Jessica Crann and Martha Jones at the Science and Innovation Park prepared objects for a Eurovision exhibition. Jessica treated the Pepys Series 'Astronaut' card game (1961), featuring 44 cards illustrated by British artist Rex Pitts, with a damaged cardboard box repaired using Japanese tissue and wheat starch paste. Martha conserved a Marconi Mk III camera head (1953), weighing 80 kg, used in Eurovision broadcasts. She removed mould, tape residue, and copper corrosion, spending six hours on the treatment. The camera was photographed by Jamie Torrance before transport to Bradford.
