ConiglioViola's Tino Bagdad project becomes a diffused cinema in Milan

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Turin-based duo ConiglioViola (Brice Coniglio and Andrea Raviola) has relocated their multimedia project 'Le notti di Tino Bagdad' to Milan, where it will be staged at Studio Museo Francesco Messina and ten other venues across the city until April 1, 2017. The work reinterprets the life of an oriental princess from Else Lasker-Schüler's expressionist poem 'Die Nächte der Tino von Bagdad', breaking the narrative into episodes. Initially presented in Turin as posters with augmented reality sequences viewable via an app, the Milan iteration transforms urban space into a 'diffused cinema', using a mix of ancient and modern techniques from copper engraving to green screen. The project challenges traditional narrative consumption in literature and cinema, inviting viewers to piece together the story in their own way and share it again.
