Conference Call: Beyond Friendships Examines 1970s Central-East European Art Networks
A conference aimed at redefining Central-East European art through cultural exchanges from the 1970s is being organized by ARTMargins Online. Submissions must be sent by January 20, 2022, to zsofia.kokai@szepmuveszeti.hu. This event draws inspiration from Piotr Piotrowski's concept of horizontal art history, prioritizing discussions among artists rather than national narratives. The cultural dynamics in 20th-century Eastern Europe were shaped by historical migrations and events. By the 1970s, state cultural diplomacy and collaborations within parallel cultures significantly impacted local artistic interactions. The conference will feature figures such as Lajos Kassák and Tomáš Štrauss, along with publications like Új Symposion. Abstracts of up to 500 words in English and a CV are required for submission.
