Conductor Art Fair Debuts in Brooklyn Focusing on Global Majority
Powerhouse Arts in Gowanus, Brooklyn, launched the inaugural Conductor Art Fair, running through May 3, 2026. Co-curated by fair director Adriana Farietta (formerly of the Armory Show) and PHA president Eric Shiner, the fair features 28 gallery exhibitors and 20 special projects representing the global majority and Indigenous nations. Exhibitor booths start at $2,500 for nonprofits and $3,500 for artist-run spaces, with self-representing artists participating at no cost but donating 30% of sales to PHA. Notable participants include Palestinian artist Khaled Jarrar, Puerto Rican sculptor Margarita Vincenty (showing assemblages made from beach detritus), Venezuelan artist Esmelyn Miranda, Bangladeshi artist Bishwajit Goswami (presented by Brihatta Art Foundation), and the Indigenous Mexican duo RojoNegro (Noé Martínez and María Sosa), who will represent Mexico at the Venice Biennale. Other artists include Burgarin + Castle (representing Scotland), Beya Gille Gacha (representing Cameroon), and Ana Raylander Mártis dos Anjos (featured in the upcoming Carnegie International). The fair also features an immersive yurt installation "The House of Silence" (2026) by Turkish artist Vuslat and Tunisian architect Sana Frini. The fair aims to provide accessibility for international galleries and artists new to the US market, intentionally scheduled ahead of New York Art Week to avoid competing with the traditional fair circuit.
