Condo Project Expands to Cologne and Düsseldorf for September 2017

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The Condo project, launched in London in 2016, is a collaborative initiative where international galleries are hosted by local spaces, sharing resources to reduce costs and foster experimental exhibitions. After its successful London edition (January 16–February 13, 2016) with eight host galleries and 24 guests from the US, South America, Northern Europe, and China, the concept was replicated in New York. There, gallerist Simone Subal, with Nicole Russo of Chapter NY, organized 16 participating galleries in Chelsea and the Lower East Side, including Gavin Brown's Enterprise, Bridget Donahue, and Andrew Kreps. Hosts cover only installation costs and forgo sales commissions. Now, from September 8–30, 2017, nine galleries in Cologne and Düsseldorf will host 17 international galleries. Collaborations include Delmes&Zander (Cologne) hosting Neue Alte Brücke (Berlin) and Galerie 1900-2000 (Paris); Lucas Hirsch (Düsseldorf) hosting Stereo (Warsaw) and Lomex (New York); and Max Mayer (Düsseldorf) hosting Miguel Abreu (New York) and Misako&Rosen (Tokyo). The initiative supports smaller galleries with limited budgets, enabling them to showcase emerging talent and maintain a vibrant art scene without the glossy excess of major players.
