Concrete staircase anchors Purple Brand studios by Scott & Scott Architects

architecture-design · 2026-05-03

Scott & Scott Architects has completed a 14,000-square-foot atelier for denim label Purple Brand in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighborhood. The workspace occupies two floors of a 1973 warehouse, retaining original metal ceiling trusses and a timber-plank roof. A raw board-formed concrete staircase with two parallel flights and a curved landing connects the levels. The studio features pigmented plywood workstations, a concrete reception counter, chainmail curtain, and communal cast-concrete tables. The design emphasizes durability and raw materials, echoing Purple Brand's utilitarian aesthetic. The project team includes Susan and David Scott, Andrea Zittlau, Ian Mclean Architecture, Ennova Structural Engineers, Flow Engineering, RFT Engineering, and Anion Enterprises. Photography by Andrew Latreille.
