Concetto Pozzati retrospective at Palazzo Fava in Bologna

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Palazzo Fava in Bologna hosts a major retrospective of Concetto Pozzati, one of Italy's leading pop artists. Curated by his daughter Maura Pozzati, who also directs the artist's archive founded in Bologna in 2020, the exhibition spans two floors. On the first floor, large-scale cycles of paintings are displayed in frescoed rooms, while the second-floor gallery presents drawings, sketches, and medium-to-small works. A highlight is the audio of the artist's voice and interviews. Pozzati (Vo', 1935 – Bologna, 2017) studied architecture at the Istituto d'Arte di Bologna and graphic advertising techniques in Paris with his uncle Sepo (Severo Pozzati). He later taught at the Academies of Fine Arts in Urbino, Florence, Venice, and Bologna, famously stating, 'You only teach what you don't know!' He also played basketball for top Bologna teams in the 1950s and served as the city's culture assessor in the 1990s.
