Concetta D'Angeli's 'Rancore' Explores Resentment and Self-Confrontation
Concetta D'Angeli's fourth novel, 'Rancore' (Il ramo e la foglia, 2026), is a multifaceted work held together by a realist writing style that allows what the text seems to want to conceal to surface: the rancor of the title, more than a feeling of anger, appears as the final result of a ruthless confrontation of the author with herself. D'Angeli's previous novel, 'Le rovinose' (2021), also published by Il ramo e la foglia, won two prizes (Forum Traiani and Cava de' Tirreni), was a semifinalist for the Premio Comisso, and was proposed for the Strega Prize by Paolo Ruffilli. D'Angeli taught Italian Literature and Theater Dramaturgy at the University of Pisa. As a scholar, she has focused on 20th-century Italian authors, particularly Testori, Calvino, Pasolini, and especially Elsa Morante.
