Common Practice Conference on Small-Scale Arts and Cultural Wealth

Common Practice is organizing a conference titled 'Public Assets: Small-scale Arts Organisations and the Production of Value' at Platform Theatre, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, on Friday 6 February 2015, from 10:00 to 17:30. The event will explore how small-scale arts organizations produce artistic value beyond measurability and quantification, providing spaces for public experience outside the market and contributing to cultural wealth. Speakers include Jesús Carrillo, Kodwo Eshun, Charlotte Higgins, Maria Lind, Andrea Phillips, and Lise Soskolne. They will discuss asserting a non-financialised ethos within the current arts funding landscape and examine practices that deliver exhibitions and events exemplifying the arts institution as an essential public asset. Tickets are £10, including coffee and lunch. Bursaries for travel and accommodation (up to £200) are available for peer organizations; applications must be submitted by Monday 12 January 2015.
