Comitato Fondazioni Arte Contemporanea Appeals to Mibact for Support

The Comitato Fondazioni Arte Contemporanea, founded in 2014 by Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and Riccardo Rossotto, has sent an appeal to Italian Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini. The committee, which now counts about 15 members among Italy's leading contemporary art institutions, urges the government to recognize contemporary art as a strategic sector in the post-pandemic recovery. The appeal highlights four key areas: maintaining open exhibition programming and collaboration with schools and universities; supporting young artistic talent and preventing brain drain; continuing educational courses on contemporary art; and developing digital tools for broader accessibility. The committee warns that without immediate support, private institutions risk halting their work, which would harm artists, professionals, and the cultural and economic growth of Italy. They call for liquidity measures for cultural enterprises, expansion of the Art Bonus, and tax deductions for cultural consumption. The appeal was sent in the context of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte's April 26 announcement of museum and library reopenings on May 18, and Minister Franceschini's earlier pledges to support workers in cinema, music, and entertainment.
