Comic Strip Exhibition at Salerno Archaeological Museum Blends Apollo Myth with Poetry

The Museo Archeologico Provinciale di Salerno will host the exhibition 'La pesca miracolosa. Un fumetto entra al museo' from April 11 to April 30, 2023. Conceived by illustrator Odïle (Daniela De Vita) and organized by cultural association AmbientArti, the show presents a six-panel comic strip that recounts the myth of Apollo, inspired by verses Giuseppe Ungaretti wrote in May 1932 after visiting the museum. The poem, titled 'La pesca miracolosa,' describes the 1930 discovery of the bronze 'Testa di Apollo' caught in fishermen's nets in the Gulf of Salerno. The comic features Apollo with humorous expressions aimed at engaging younger audiences. An opening talk on April 11 will involve Odïle, cartoonist Enzo Lauria, writer Domenico Notari, and journalist Erminia Pellecchia, exploring intersections between archaeology, comics, and literature. The initiative follows the national 'Fumetti nei musei' program launched in 2018 by Italy's Ministry of Culture and Coconino Press, which commissions comic artists to create original works about cultural heritage.
