Comedian Russell Kane to Make Theatre Debut as Romeo at New Vic

Russell Kane, the comedian, is set to make his debut in professional theatre by portraying Romeo in a fresh adaptation of Romeo and Juliet at the New Vic Theatre located in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. This production, a joint effort between the theatre and Not Too Tame, presents the iconic lovers as they reunite in their 40s, offering a narrative enriched by their life experiences. Kane, who has received multiple nominations at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, expressed his excitement for the role, which he has long dreamed of. He remarked that the age shift adds a unique twist and emphasized that genuine emotional connection with Juliet is key to managing his energy. Directed by Jimmy Fairhurst, performances will take place from 17 September to 10 October, aligning with the theatre's 40th anniversary. At 50, Kane has previously toured with three of his own plays, showcasing his understanding of script discipline and teamwork.
