Comedian Max Giermann debuts paintings in Berlin exhibition 'Figuring Out'
Comedian and actor Max Giermann has opened his first art exhibition in Berlin, presenting large acrylic paintings on canvas featuring figures, heads, and body fragments. The exhibition, titled 'Figuring Out', runs through June 13 at Janinebeangallery in Berlin-Mitte. Giermann, known for his work on 'Switch Reloaded', explained during the vernissage that he approaches painting differently from his comedy and acting careers. While he seeks approval and laughter in performance, he feels indifferent to others' opinions about his visual art. The 50-year-old artist described an internal creative drive that persists regardless of exhibition opportunities. One painting depicts actor Klaus Kinski, whom Giermann has frequently parodied, titled 'Das Ende der Raserei' (The End of the Frenzy), which he declares his final Kinski portrait. Giermann grew up in a household where both parents were art educators, with a studio in the basement, and he recalls drawing extensively from a young age, having his first exhibition at age eight within his family circle. After a 20-year hiatus from painting, he has recently rediscovered the practice. The exhibition marks his debut in Berlin, where he studied.
