Combo Hostel Opens in Turin with Art Space and Adaptive Reuse Design

Combo, a hostel chain founded by Michele Denegri, opens a new location in Turin on January 20, 2020, at Porta Palazzo, Europe's largest market. The hostel is housed in a former fire station at Corso Regina Margherita 128, abandoned for over twenty years, and renovated through adaptive reuse by Norwegian architect Ole Sondresen and Turin-based interior designer Helga Faletti. The project emphasizes local craftsmanship, with all furnishings produced by Piedmontese companies using traditional techniques. The ground floor features a 2,500-square-meter open space divided into areas including a radio box, the Atlas Room for events, a performance space, and the Fire Hall exhibition space, which will host art activities from March 2020. Combo previously opened in Venice (May 2019) in a former Jesuit convent in Cannaregio, and in Milan (September 2019) in a historic building on Naviglio Grande. The chain has collaborated with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte, Supercondominio, and Artissima Experimental Academy. Future openings are planned in Bologna, Rome (Testaccio), and Verona.
