Colture Project: Ecological Design Collective Debuts at Alcova Milan

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

Colture Project, a new experimental design collective founded in 2023, presented its site-specific installation 'Landscape' at the seventh edition of Alcova, held at Villa Bagatti-Valsecchi in Milan. The installation featured a floor of crushed terracotta simulating a germinating desert environment, showcasing two distinct series: Ancestors and Kurinuki. The collective was founded by architect and curator Pino Brugellis, sculptor and designer Vittorio Cavallini, and visual artists Eva Sauer and Enrico Vezzi. Their approach combines ecological and anthropo-social principles, drawing on Tuscan craftsmanship, traditional techniques, and sustainable materials to create functional, poetic objects. The Ancestors series consists of ceramic and stoneware cups inscribed with hand-impressed marks inspired by early writing forms, available in five color variations: white, red, gray, sand, and black. The Kurinuki series comprises sculptural vases created using the ancient Japanese subtractive technique of kurinuki, which involves carving solid clay blocks to produce unique, imperfect pieces. The collective emphasizes slow, meditative processes and aims to foster heightened awareness through everyday objects like drinking vessels and plant pots. The project operates as a plural, experimental initiative merging human and natural energies.
