Colosseum Reopens with Concert, New Projects for 2021

The Colosseum in Rome reopens to the public on February 1, 2021, as Italy's yellow zones allow museums and archaeological sites to open on weekdays. A concert by students of Santa Cecilia will be held on the arena floor at 12:30, streamed live on Facebook. Restoration of the Colosseum's underground, funded by Tod's SpA since 2011, is concluding. The Arena Project, financed with €18.5 million from the Ministry, will make the arena floor accessible again. The Parco Archeologico del Colosseo (PArCo) also plans to open the Domus Aurea in March 2021 with the exhibition 'Raffaello e la Domus Aurea. L'invenzione delle grottesche,' featuring a new entrance and walkway designed by Stefano Boeri. The Domus Tiberiana will reopen after 40 years by spring 2021. New apps 'Y&Co – You And Colosseo' and 'Il PArCo di Piranesi' launched in December 2020 for enhanced visitor experience. Temporary exhibitions include 'Pompei 79 d.C. Una storia romana' and a permanent display on the Vestal Virgins. The PArCo will participate in Dante's 700th anniversary with the festival 'Le parole di Dante' at the Basilica of Maxentius.
