Colosseum exterior restoration completed, funded by Tod's and Art Bonus
The exterior restoration of the Colosseum has been completed, revealing the ancient amphitheater's cleaned and restored facade. The project was funded by Diego Della Valle's Tod's group with a total cost of 25 million euros, plus an additional 18 million from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The restoration involved cleaning with nebulized water at room temperature, removing black crusts and deposits, and treating stone materials to reveal original patinas and tool marks. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi praised the public-private partnership enabled by the Art Bonus law. Interior restoration, including hypogeum areas, ground floor, and first order, is scheduled for completion by 2018, adding 25% more accessible space. A service center is also planned. Culture Minister Dario Franceschini stated that a possible arena cover is under discussion by a scientific committee to ensure philological accuracy, and ruled out events like football matches. Della Valle expressed pride in Italian craftsmanship and restoration expertise.
