Colosseum Archaeological Park Launches 'Depositi InVisibili' Video Series

The Parco archeologico del Colosseo (PArCo) has launched a four-episode video reportage titled 'Depositi InVisibili' to showcase its hidden collections normally stored in warehouses. The series is curated by archaeologists Federica Rinaldi and Roberta Alteri, with video production by Mario Cristofaro. The first episode, released on November 13, 2021, focuses on the Domus Aurea and recently restored artifacts integrated into the public route opened in June 2021. Expert Elisabetta Segala explains the decorative program of Nero's Golden House, inspired by the Sun King. The second episode (November 27) covers prominent Roman and Italian archaeologists Pietro Rosa, Rodolfo Lanciani, Giacomo Boni, and Alfonso Bartoli, particularly their excavations on the Palatine Hill since the 19th century. The third episode examines excavations on the northeastern slopes of the Palatine, recovering portraits reused in late antique foundations (the so-called Baths of Elagabalus) and ongoing work in the Domus Tiberiana. The final episode (December 18) delves into the Colosseum's bimillennial history, from gladiatorial games to the Middle Ages and modern conservation. Director Alfonsina Russo stated the project aims to strengthen public engagement with PArCo's cultural heritage, pending future displays in the Museo Diffuso program, following the example of the Depot in Rotterdam.
