Color Factory pop-up museum opens in New York after San Francisco success
Color Factory, a pop-up museum dedicated to color and creativity, will open in New York's SoHo neighborhood on August 20, 2018, following a successful debut in San Francisco. The original San Francisco edition, created by California creative Jordan Ferney, opened in August 2017 and was intended to last one month but was extended to eight months due to popularity, attracting over 170,000 visitors. The New York location at 251 Spring Street spans 1,800 square meters and features 16 different installations, including a dance floor, a floating room, and a 'secret color' room designed by artist Molly Young. A precursor installation, the Manhattan Color Walk, is already on display at the Smithsonian Design Museum's garden, mapping colors and stories from staff excursions around the city. The project is part of a growing trend of ephemeral pop-up museums focused on pop culture icons, following others like the Museum of Selfie, Ice Cream Museum, Museum of Candy, and Museum of Pizza.
