Collezione Farnesina Launches 'Album d’artista' Coloring Book

publication · 2026-04-27

The Collezione Farnesina, the contemporary art collection of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation housed at Palazzo della Farnesina in Rome, has launched a new editorial project titled 'Album d’artista – colora la Collezione Farnesina'. The initiative aims to introduce children to 20th- and 21st-century Italian art in a playful, unconventional way. The album presents black-and-white graphic versions of selected masterpieces from the collection, allowing users to recolor them digitally or by hand. Featured works span major movements in Italian contemporary art, including abstraction (Piero Dorazio, Achille Perilli, Corrado Cagli), optical art (Alberto Biasi), new impressionism (Alessandra Giovannoni), primitivism (Massimo Campigli), and contemporary research (Pietro Ruffo, Mustafa Sabbagh). The collection itself includes pieces by early 20th-century artists such as Sironi, Cagli, Campigli, Pirandello, and Martini, as well as post-war figures like Accardi, Sanfilippo, Dorazio, and Consagra. It also holds works from Arte Povera (Kounellis, Merz), Pop art (Rotella, Schifano), Conceptual art (Isgrò), perceptual art (Castellani, Bonalumi), Anachronism (Mariani, Gandolfi), and Transavanguardia (Chia, Cucchi, Paladino). The album is available as a free PDF download on the Collezione Farnesina website.
