Collettivo MADRE's Risorgi-mente Residency Revives Bussana Vecchia

So, there’s this cool project called the Risorgi-mente residency that the artist group MADRE kicked off in Bussana Vecchia, a medieval village in Imperia that became abandoned after an earthquake in 1887. Curated by Marco Colombo, it gathered 17 artists including Alberto Antonio Foresta and Antonio Pipolo, among others. MADRE, which is all about supporting new artists, aims to revitalize the village's artistic scene and make it a global hotspot for creativity. The residency led to unique pieces, like Pipolo's nest-like installation made from brambles in the San Giovanni Battista oratory. The local youth got involved through the Associazione Laboratorio Aperto, though it wasn’t without its difficulties. MADRE plans to replicate this initiative in other underappreciated cultural sites in Italy and beyond.
