CollettivO CineticO's Sylphidarium Reimagines Ballet Through Fashion and Deconstruction
Francesca Pennini and CollettivO CineticO present 'Sylphidarium/Maria Taglioni on the ground' at Le vie dei Festival di Roma, after debuting at Torinodanza. The performance deconstructs the classic ballet La Sylphide through a fashion show-like parade of eclectic costumes—kilts, furs, leather, sportswear, fetish gear—reminiscent of Vanessa Beecroft's work. Live electronic music by Francesco Antonioni interacts with Chopin pieces played by violinist Marlène Prodigo and drums by Flavio Tanzi. The choreography explores themes of love, competition, and mortality, ending with a silent picnic scene where dancers eat popcorn naked, followed by an aerobic finale with breakdance and hip-hop. The work marks a new compositional maturity for Pennini.
