Collectors Sue Alison Jacques Gallery Over Cancelled Monica Sjöö Sale

Yoed and Natasha Anise have filed a lawsuit against the Alison Jacques gallery in London, claiming breach of contract after the gallery annulled the sale of three artworks by Swedish painter Monica Sjöö (1938-2005). This case is scheduled for March 2027 at the Central London County Court. The Anises purchased the paintings on 6 October 2023 for £264,000, benefiting from a 20% discount off the original price of £330,000. The gallery's decision to cancel came after the artist's estate raised concerns regarding comments made by Natasha on 16 November 2023 during a dinner for Sjöö's retrospective. The gallery counters that the Anises planned to display the pieces in their children's rooms. The Anises are pursuing a complete refund, the discount, St Germain's fee, travel costs, and damages, while the gallery refutes the breach, noting the Anises did not take possession or accept a refund for ten months.
