Colle Val d'Elsa trains mental health patients as museum guides
Starting January 12, 2026, Colle Val d'Elsa in Tuscany will launch a pilot project where patients from the local Mental Health Center become guides at three civic museums: Museo del Cristallo, Museo San Pietro, and Museo Archeologico 'Ranuccio Bianchi Bandinelli'. The initiative, announced by welfare councillor Daniele Tozzi, is part of a broader cultural welfare policy aiming to transform museums into community hubs. Participants will undergo training and then lead tours, fostering social inclusion and self-esteem. The municipality, a candidate for Italian Capital of Culture 2028, plans further steps in 2026: students will spend time learning in museums, and collaborations with autism associations will develop workshops led by autistic individuals. The project emphasizes voluntary participation and respect for individual therapeutic paths, positioning the museum as a safe space for active citizenship.
