Collage as Private Language: Four Artists at Art Forum Contemporary Bologna

At Art Forum Contemporary in Bologna, curator Marco Neri (b. 1968) presents a group exhibition featuring three fellow artists: Sergia Avveduti, Cesare Biratoni, and Stefano Peroli. United by generation, artistic attitude, and the practice of collage, these artists have worked since the 1990s, a period Neri argues was clouded by fleeting trends in the Italian art scene. Avveduti constructs new landscapes and intimate locales from vintage Touring Club magazine images. Biratoni, born in Barcelona, places his figures in anonymity, creating works of emptiness and solitude. Peroli, from Varese, contributes gestural pieces on graph paper, focusing on the face. The exhibition champions a discrete generation with strong content, presenting collage as an inherently private visual language for those who have been 'deprived' of something.
