architecture-design · 2026-05-23

Colima 71, a hotel in Mexico City's Roma Norte neighborhood, opened with a design that integrates contemporary aesthetics with local culture. The architecture, by T.A.X. by Alberto Kalach, uses metal, stone, and wood to create a residential feel with private balconies overlooking a courtyard. Interior design by Nomah Studio and Karla Celerio features marble, wood, velvet, and French tapestries. The hotel showcases art including a sculptural installation by Darío Escobar made from bicycle tires, stainless steel, and brass; a photography collection by Iñaki Bonilla; and an Art Deco-inspired latticework installation by Sofía Taboas. Managing director Ana Ongay describes it as an immersive journey through the neighborhood's culture.
