Coletivo MUDA Brings Street Art to Rome Gallery
The Brazilian collective MUDA, founded in 2010 in Rio de Janeiro by designers Bruna Vieira and João Tolentino and architects Diego Uribbe, Duke Capellão, and Rodrigo Kalache, presents its first Roman exhibition, 'Interferenze,' at Galleria 111. Curated by Altrodesign—a multi-creative entity led by Italian-Brazilian architects Rodrigo Iorio and Carinthia Lopes—the show runs until January 30. It features the work 'Alicatado #04,' whose title refers to a Portuguese tile-cutting technique the collective developed after a trip to Portugal. The exhibition also includes a video documenting the group's urban transformations and images of projects in Taiwan, New York, Lisbon, and Florence. Artclhub, an art agency and headhunting firm founded by Silvia Segnalini, collaborates on the project. MUDA's practice involves installing white-backed majolica panels painted with mineral ink in abandoned urban spaces, creating colorful geometric patterns that reinterpret Portuguese azulejos. Their work has previously appeared in museums, gardens, public squares, streets, and private homes. The collective's name derives from the Portuguese word for 'change,' reflecting their mission to use public art for urban regeneration. Since 2021, Artribune's Produzioni division has also engaged in such regeneration, with installations by Patrick Tuttofuoco and Cabaret Typographie at Piazza Vetra in Milan.
