Coinbase Pushes for Clearer Canadian Crypto Rules to Launch 'Everything Exchange'

economy-finance · 2026-07-29

Coinbase is set to launch a comprehensive digital finance platform in Canada, named the 'Everything Exchange,' which will feature cryptocurrencies, tokenized stocks, derivatives, DeFi, and stablecoins. During the Blockchain Futurist Conference in Toronto, CEO Eric Richmond highlighted the necessity for Canada's regulatory landscape to progress beyond temporary exemptions. Although Canada sanctioned spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs and Coinbase became the first international crypto exchange to register in April 2024, Richmond pointed out that reliance on staff guidance instead of permanent legislation has resulted in inconsistencies in products. While Coinbase seeks to broaden its crypto futures offerings, it requires further approvals for wider retail access. Richmond also praised Canada's Stablecoin Act, which led to the introduction of CADD, and advocated for a unified National Instrument to expedite approvals.
