Coconino Press launches Doku manga series with Akino and Shungiku
Coconino Press has inaugurated Doku, a new imprint dedicated to contemporary Japanese manga. The series launches with two titles: Kondoh Akino's "Il mondo degli insetti" and Uchida Shungiku's "La fidanzata di Minami." Akino's collection of thirteen black-and-white stories blends dreamlike and unsettling elements, bridging traditional manga and pop culture. Shungiku's romantic comedy follows high school student Chiyomi who shrinks to live in her boyfriend Minami's hand, exploring relationship dynamics. Curators Vincenzo Filosa, Paolo La Marca, and Livio Tallini state Doku aims to offer author-driven manga without genre limits, focusing on innovation and female narratives.
