Coco Chanel's Nazi Collaboration: From Fashion Icon to Agent F-7124

Coco Chanel, the renowned fashion designer, was revealed to have served as a Nazi agent during World War II, according to declassified French government documents from 2014. Born in 1883, Chanel revolutionized women's fashion but faced scrutiny over her wartime actions. Following France's capitulation in June 1940, she returned to Paris to assist her imprisoned nephew, André Palasse, and initiated a relationship with German spy Baron Hans Günther von Dincklage. Chanel was recruited as agent F-7124 by the Abwehr and participated in Operation Modelhut, which aimed to negotiate peace with Winston Churchill, though it ultimately failed. She also sought to take control of her perfume business from Jewish partners under Nazi regulations. After the war, she was briefly detained before escaping to Switzerland in 1945.
