Cocktail Bar Artemisia Opens in Florence's Hotel Savoy
A new cocktail bar dedicated to Artemisia Gentileschi has opened at the five-star Hotel Savoy on Piazza della Repubblica in Florence. Designed by studio C14 and Olga Polizzi, Head of Design of Rocco Forte Hotels, the space features larger-than-life light projections of the Baroque painter's heroines—Judith, Cleopatra, Susanna—with violent details replaced by playful elements like Martini glasses and playing cards. The bar aims to shift focus from Gentileschi's traumatic biography (she was raped at 17 by Agostino Tassi, testified under torture, and won a conviction) to her formal artistic power. Gentileschi was the first woman admitted to Florence's Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, worked for European courts, and was the subject of a 2020 monographic exhibition at the National Gallery in London. In 2025, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles presented the restoration of her 'Hercules and Omphale,' damaged in the Beirut port explosion. The bar continues a tradition of art-spirits collaborations, referencing Salvador Dalí's 1970s vermouth bottles for Distilleria Buton, Fortunato Depero's 1932 Campari Soda bottle, and recent works by Maurizio Cattelan (Sgrappa) and Piero Lissoni (Ginarte).
