Co-Working and Art Collide in Brooklyn's The Gallery

exhibition · 2026-04-28

In a former Prospect Heights auto service station turned creative office, curator Florian Meisenberg has transformed a vacant fourth-floor suite into "The Gallery: WeWork (oralmoral)," an experimental art space that doubles as a co-working hub. The show features site-specific works by over 40 artists, including Michael Egan, Anna K.E. Tamada, Cayetano Ferrer, and Brian Oakes, installed throughout cubicles, utility closets, and even a metal recycling bin. Meisenberg secured the space from landlord David Steinberg of Synoptic Management after a chance conversation, leveraging Brooklyn's struggling commercial market where one in five offices sat empty at end of 2025. The exhibition opened April 10 with 600 attendees and runs through May 24, with programs including live podcasts, poetry readings, and a "Team Building" event on May 2. Meisenberg spent $350 on a U-Haul and completed installation in a week. The space also offers free co-working for up to 10 people per day via an online platform. Meisenberg, who moved to New York from Berlin in 2010, previously curated a show at Berthold Pott Gallery in Cologne in 2024. He describes the office's remnants of bureaucracy as "cave paintings" and hopes to extend the project's run or move to another commercial space.
