CNCS Marks 20 Years with Spectacular Costume Exhibition
The Centre national du costume et de la scène (CNCS) in Moulins celebrates its 20th anniversary with the exhibition "Tous en scène !" running from April 25, 2026 to January 3, 2027. The show features over 100 pieces from the CNCS collection of more than 10,000 costumes, sourced from the Opéra national de Paris, Comédie Française, Bibliothèque nationale de France, and private donations. Highlights include the Tiger costume from Mozart's The Magic Flute (2000) by Jean-Marc Stehlé, a gown worn by Sarah Bernhardt as the Queen of Spain in Victor Hugo's Ruy Blas (1879), and a costume worn by Maria Callas as Norma at the Opéra de Paris in 1964. The exhibition also presents costumes from Alain Delon (acquired at auction in 2025), Dalida, and Zizi Jeanmaire. A final parade of thirty costumes includes figures like Arlequin and Cyrano de Bergerac, designed for the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony. A video by artist Pierre Giner using AI animates the silhouettes. The CNCS also permanently displays the Rudolf Nureyev collection.
