Clet Abraham transforms 50 road signs in Monteriggioni public art project

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Monteriggioni, a medieval fortified village in Tuscany, has launched a public art initiative called Percorsi in Comune Vol.1, curated by Gaia Pasi. The project begins with French-born, Florence-based artist Clet Abraham modifying approximately 50 road signs around the Castello di Monteriggioni and Castellina Scalo, unveiled on June 15, 2017. Abraham, known for his ironic alterations of traffic signs as critiques of authority, has lived in Italy for over 20 years. The initiative will continue through the summer with ten urban regeneration interventions involving five other contemporary artists: Pierluigi Pagni, Jacopo Pischedda, Colette Baraldi, BLUB, and Benedetto Cristofani. This follows a similar project in nearby Siena called Street Art Quarter, also overseen by Pasi, who runs the Zak gallery space in Monteriggioni.
