Clémence de La Tour du Pin's Subterranean Installation in Turin's 16th-Century Fortress
French artist Clémence de La Tour du Pin (born 1986 in Roanne) presented her first Italian exhibition, 'Sept préludes,' in the underground galleries of the Fortezza Sotterranea del Pastiss in Turin. The 16th-century fortress, built by Duke Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, had never before been opened to the public. Curated by Matteo Mottin, the exhibition was organized by Treti Galaxie in collaboration with the Museo Pietro Micca and the Associazione Amici del Museo Pietro Micca. The immersive experience, set 13 meters underground, featured two installations exploring subconscious memory and sensory perception. The first installation used white paper castles deconstructed against dark walls, while the second incorporated a metal pentagram holding flasks and alembics that filtered atmospheric essences. De La Tour du Pin's work references her great-uncle Charles de Brosses, an 18th-century philosopher and linguist who coined the term 'fetishism' and explored the Citadel in 1740. The exhibition ran in 2017.
