Clearing Gallery Closes New York and Los Angeles Locations
Clearing gallery, founded by Olivier Babin in 2011, is closing its New York and Los Angeles spaces after 14 years. The decision follows financial difficulties and the resignation of New York director Susanna Chachko. The gallery hosted over 200 exhibitions with more than 250 artists and participated in over 80 art fairs. Babin cited an inability to maintain standards for artists, team, and community. The last shows were Coco Young in New York and Henry Curchod in Los Angeles. At Art Basel 2025, Clearing launched Maison Clearing, a experimental model prioritizing dialogue over fair fatigue, which may have served as a celebratory closure. The Brussels branch, now independent under Lodovico Corsini since 2024, continues operations with several former Clearing artists.
