Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin Revisits Horror Soundtracks at Cinema Massimo in Turin

On October 7, 2022, Claudio Simonetti, founder of the legendary progressive rock band Goblin, performed a concert at Cinema Massimo in Turin, Italy, revisiting iconic horror film scores. Accompanied by Cecilia Nappo (bass), Federico Marangoni (drums), and Daniele Armador (guitar) — the lineup known as Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin — the set included soundtracks composed for Dario Argento (e.g., Profondo Rosso, Suspiria), Lamberto Bava, and George A. Romero, alongside original Goblin tracks reimagined in a rock and prog-metal style. The concert coincided with the exhibition Dario Argento – The Exhibit at the Museo del Cinema di Torino inside the Mole Antonelliana, running until January 16, 2023. Simonetti’s career has seen him blend prog rock with classical studies and 1980s Italo disco, achieving commercial success. The performance highlighted his historical role in bridging music and cinema, notably when the young Goblin was chosen by Argento to complete the score for Profondo Rosso after Giorgio Gaslini abandoned the project. Simonetti is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia this year.
