Claudio Marinaccio creates comic strip for Turin's Egyptian Museum

publication · 2026-04-27

Claudio Marinaccio, a cartoonist from Turin born in 1982, has created the first in a series of comic strips dedicated to major museums worldwide, published weekly on Artribune. The debut strip focuses on the Museo Egizio di Torino, chosen for Marinaccio's personal connection to the city and his passion for hieroglyphs, which he likens to comics as a visual communication medium. Marinaccio transitioned from writing to comics after a rejection from a major publisher during the pandemic, leading him to abandon prose and focus on drawing. His first graphic novel, "Trentatré raggi ionizzanti" (Feltrinelli, 2021), recounts his experience with a rare soft tissue sarcoma in his right arm, using irony and humor to address the illness. The book was conceived after his recovery, drawing from notes made during radiotherapy. Marinaccio also co-founded the magazine Smoking Cat with Marco Corona and Claudio Calia, where he is creating a serialized comic about his relationship with rap music. The museum comic series will continue with additional installments on Artribune's website in November.
