Claudia Losi's Collective Tapestries Weave Nature and Evolution at Monica De Cardenas
At Galleria Monica De Cardenas in Milan, Claudia Losi (born 1971, Piacenza) presents 'Tempo Crudo,' a solo exhibition featuring her large-scale tapestries that explore the intersection of human evolution, nature, and collective storytelling. The centerpiece, 'Being There. Oltre Il giardino,' begun in 2020, spans 18 meters by 144 centimeters and is divided into 13 sequences. Losi gathered responses to the question 'What is your idea of nature?' from friends and collaborators worldwide, weaving their answers into the textiles. The exhibition includes works such as 'Rimettaggi – Gorgo' (2025), 'Come un giardino foresta (occhio)' (2002-2026), and 'Come giardino foresta (cervo)' (2002-2026), which feature animals like frogs, peacocks, crocodiles, deer, lions, bears, and dolphins. The tapestries incorporate red embroidered profiles of human couples, referencing Luce Irigaray's 'I love to you' (1993). Losi also conducted a workshop at Casa degli Artisti in Milan during Riccardo Arena's exhibition, where participants folded paper to create figures projected as shadows. The exhibition's title references Judy Jacanamejoy's concept of alignment between living and non-living, and includes a quote from Telmo Pievani on evolution published in La Lettura (November 3, 2024). The show runs at Via Lentasio 7, Milan.
